Music is my great obsession.

What I could do without it – buy a car, shower myself in hundred dollar bills, have a life. Oh wow. But..

There are some things that feel out of society, little secrets, places that can only be found through sound. These places I visit each day and feel the warmth of heaven upon me. As much as I would love to stop collecting, listening, writing, I feel that these past discoveries, selfish they are, are immensely important. Writing a song like Darkened House, hearing Hurt by Nine Inch Nails for the first time, writing a song like Shattered or its emotional counterpart – Lost to the Good, or hearing something fantastic in a Steve Kilbey song that I feel nobody else may feel. I do not know who I would have become if I had not heard these songs.. these obsessions.

Have a listen to some of these and you may hae an idea where my music is heading. These are songs which allowed me to see something new in music.

This is probably a huge load of crap.

I was listening to music on random while reading a book and something very strange came on. This song had smothered vocals, trumpets, strange percussion, experimental song structure, and a poppy but distant emotion. I thought to myself ‘Oh no, I have one of those retarded new indie songs’. Now let me explain – I listen to the radio quite often and usually not by choice, and I find there are quite a few artists out there who have this strange new style. When I finally find out who wrote the music, they were either influenced by some major indie band or they are an up and coming band on an independent label. Experimenting with music styles is usually not a bad thing but can bring some horrible results. Take any pop structure and toss in a strange against the grain harmony or forgotten instrument, but make sure it sounds more puzzling than musical. What you get is.. #@*$)&@) which is perfect for indie music. Next, you need some strange emotion. When you are ready, run to your nearest recording spot (basement?) and just go nuts! Nothing like ruining a comfortable pop song with a badly recorded distorted trumpet and squeaky dog toy.

I loathe a lot of indie bands today, but back in the last century, bands were working hard and creating imaginative and emotional drifting music (Broken Social Scene, Dears, Death Cab for Cutie.. etc) the music was good and somewhat different but vaguely familiar. Nothing seemed to be written to be the next big single or made to break charts, the music was raw, emotional, and to the point – flawed but incredibly pure and honest. Some of these indie bands created the most beautiful music I have ever heard, and they made it big their own way.

Now time-warping to 2009, some bands seem to feel that they can break into the indie market by throwing in shitty and annoying samples. Bleeps and droning hums, and other things that do not belong in pop structure, like the strangeness of the music is what made them popular. When I hear these songs on the radio I usually focus on the pop parts as I enjoy a good pop song, but the extreme weirdness beats the piss out of the whole thing.

So after thinking about this and getting mad I reach for my mouse and opened my music player. The song was Summer of ’68 by Pink Floyd.

Back when I was young, in the mid 90s, I used to have a geocities account where I would basically talk about daily shenanigans and random ideas usually related to programming. Awhile later the term ‘blog’ showed up and it just did not feel right. After reading a few blogs I grew tired of their idle talk about weather and their work day and I eventually started writing again, but I decided to talk about things in a sort of alternate reality or bastardization. I wrote about exploding toilets at work, made fun of my boss, and even wrote a hate section which was one of the biggest no-nos on geocities. My rebellious was overly negative and I got some very interesting feedback from people who discovered it.

So life goes on and here it is, a.. blog. Have I accepted the word? No. It still sounds stupid to me. Since I will be writing about many things including my music (which I am very serious about), and since I will have guest writers, I need to accept that it is a ‘blog’.

See? Blog is in the title. I have come a long way.

An example of one of these lists would be ‘The Top 10 xbox 360 games of all time!’ which just sounds retarded to me since the xbox 360 has not been available for even a fraction of our human history. For this reason, all greatest lists I will create in the future will be bastardized.

It turned out that this feature was lacking an awesome ending, instead ending like a grim view of our future after World War Three.

So how goes it there, spammers and other? Registrations got yer tongue? Haha! Yes, I said to comment yet you are unable to do so. I find this very entertaining. You see, the last time I allowed anybody to register and comment, I was overwhelmed by spammers. My current plan is to let things build for a bit then allow you to comment. What would you comment about? The weather? Yeah, I know what you would comment about. It would be something like ‘Need a larger Vagina? Take these pills! Instant mutant!’. I have seen them all.

I will open the comment section to users shortly, that is, shortly in my universe of inconsistent time.

Update on current projects: The Tower’s Heartbeat was born a few weeks back out of a nightmare. The Avate (or Avation Projects) albums are going to require a lot of strings.

Today’s advice: Do not mix medications.

While I am home tonight, due to a very painful toothache, I decided to look around on the internet for things that make me more upset than I currently am, just for fun!

http://themoderatevoice.com/28089/why-america-must-address-gun-control-guest-voice/

Here is an article about avoiding the scapegoat blame of video games Causes Violence and blames another scapegoat – guns. Apparently, if we were to increase gun control then we would have a better society.

Face it, people hurt and kill people because people WANT to hurt and kill people! This has always been the case and it will always be. If we did not have any guns we would find other instruments of pain.

Video games are easy to blame because they are a source of entertainment that few people properly understand. Many people who are ignorant about games think they use mind control through repetition to force people to commit violence. If this sounds ridiculous, go and ask some people, and wear an anti-games shirt to push them to be honest about their feelings.

Guns are instruments of war and since that is a part of human nature and since conflict is a part of any living thing, guns or the common weapon will be here to stay. People will never be able to prevent guns from being brought into their country, or prevent somebody from using one.

Violence is something we cannot prevent if we continue to finger point like this. We need to educate, take responsibility, and remove the ‘good decent soul’ portion of our societies teachings because deep down, you and I, we are all able to do horrible things and we know it. You are not a sinner, you are a living person and you will defend what you believe in, if it is your belief in god or belief that you should protect the ones you love. The truth is, if somebody were about to hurt somebody you loved, you could do horrible things to protect them.

This is not to say that I am pro gun, I am from Canada and we do not see very many guns. I believe in the gun registry and think owning a gun for personal protection is a way to only look for trouble.

Sarcasm is the most important thing in the universe, forever.

It makes conversation difficult to understand, and important pieces of sarcastic conversation can become important literature – although when written it loses its sarcasm and becomes fact.

This is a difficult introduction to this blog and I hope you enjoy it’s birth as much as its middle-aged and overweight future self. There is a chance that those reading this blog have ventured to its beginning to search for an opening statement or perhaps something to show it has evolved from happy and young to its hidious or frightfully mutated peresent self. This is true, I have ventured into the future and see what lies there and it is not pretty – I must juggle my beliefs and opinions as well as those important topics which get me into trouble more carefully. Remember the one last week?? Wow, how did I get myself into that topic?

I will now watch this post disappear as time passes and imagine those who search for it commenting about it, go ahead. Was what I saw in the looking-glass true or was I looking into my beer glass instead? I always mix those two up.

Stay tuned for much controversial..
